CTAs, or Calls-to-Action, are your best friend when it comes to making your website an effective sales tool. Here’s what they are and why they’re important to creating a successful business.

What is a CTA?

A Call-to-Action is a phrase that prompts your audience to take a specific action—click, buy, download, sign up, and more. They are often used on buttons—like “LEARN MORE,” for example. CTAs are important for turning visitors into clients, customers, or leads. People are much more likely to take an action when they are prompted to do so! 

How do I write one?

Avoid sales-y sounding words and phrases. “LEARN MORE” will work better than “DOWNLOAD.” “GET STARTED” will perform better than “BUY NOW.” You want to emphasize the benefit to the user, not the action! Make them feel like it’s something they can’t afford to miss out on. 

What should it look like?

A good CTA will have simple, clear, actionable copy. There should be contrasting, bright and bold colors to attract the eye. You want it to stand out from the rest of the page—as a button, as highlighted text, or in some other way.
